The gi is worn and tied together by a belt dependent on the grapplers respected rank color. Jiu Jitsu in the gi is grappling while wearing the kimono. You are able to use and grab the gi to control your opponent and perform different techniques. Nogi grappling is without a gi and is much closer to wrestling. In nogi grappling, you cannot grab your opponent’s clothing and is soley based on control through limbs and the body.
